Located Northwest of Tokyo in the Nagano Prefecture and accessible directly from Tokyo on a 1 hour and 50-minute Shinkansen, Madarao is destined for growth as it becomes more popular with International guests from Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, China, New Zealand the UK and parts of Europe.

Across Madarao and Tangram, there are 20 chairlifts and an average snowfall ranging between 10 and 14 meters per winter season that extends from mid-December to early April. Tree-skiing is encouraged and the resort is ideal for beginners, intermediate and expert board riders & skiers.

In addition to Madarao, we also own and operate the Akakura Akarien Hotel in Myoko Kogen, right in the centre of Akakura Onsen town just off the Ginza strip. We are perfectly located in the centre of town, minutes from everything.

Both Lodges offer a unique opportunity to the right person(s) to live and work a season in Japan allowing you to immerse yourself in the culture and the abundance of powder skiing this region has to offer.

We are looking for 8 people to become part of our enthusiastic and vibrant team. You must be over 18yrs of age, have fabulous character references, work history (if applicable) and be in a position to start in Japan from the 15th December to the 15th March ( subject to snow conditions ).

Available Positions

Lodge Staff

This is a mixed position, meaning our staff of four, perform all of the roles and duties below based on our weekly roster.

  • snow clearing
  • breakfast service
  • general housekeeping & cleaning ( common areas & bathrooms )
  • room change over service
  • bar work

Employment Period

  • mid-December to mid-March ( varies based on role & responsibilities )
  • On the job training provided

Hours

  • As required, however, a minimum 24hrs/week
  • Min. 4hrs / day / 6 days per week
  • One scheduled day off per week
  • Working hours allow for plenty of board riding and skiing everyday after the morning shift
  • Over-time hours paid at Yen 1,100 p/hr beyond the first 24hr each week ( note, in all likelihood you'll work up to 4hrs overtime each day up to 24hrs each week ).

Your employment is based on an 'offset model'. Meaning, your first 24hrs each week offsets your benefits and conditions below;

  • Accommodation - twin share room ( shared bathroom )
  • Breakfast included
  • Use of commercial Kitchen for own lunch & dinner
  • Staff pantry & fridge provided
  • Season Ski lift pass ( Madarao & Tangram )
