Exceptional Stay

If you’re wanting to know where to stay... We just had the most amazing stay in Madarao at Aya Lodge Madarao. The lodge owner Drew Innes , his sister Lisa and all the lodge staff were absolutely awesome . They all went beyond any expectation to ensure we had the best trip . We’ve done a lot of snow trips to Japan in the past but never before have we experienced such great service and as a great experience as we did this trip at this Lodge. Awesome location, delicious breakfasts , super comfortable rooms and extremely helpful and friendly staff that treated us like family ❤️. Big bonuses included ; - All the tips and recommendations Drew provided with planning our trip and planning our riding days , Lisa’s help with her dining recommendations and assisting with restaurant reservations , The super convenient ski concierge service and shuttle service which saved the need to hire a car and meant we got to explore other mountains, transfers to and from train stations on our arrival and departure. .... and to top it off the lodge staff even took us out on a day trip to explore a local shrine and showed us the mountain and their hidden runs / gems- better than having a personal guide !! 👌 10/10 . We will definitely be going back.

Awesome family holiday in perfect accommodation

We had a wonderful, relaxing and fun stay at Aya Lodge. Our hosts led by Lisa were awesome offering great advice on restaurants, where the best runs would be as well as loads of local knowledge on the area. We were very lucky to be offered an additional room for our teenage daughters making our stay even more relaxing. The breakfast is delicious, lots to choose from and set us up for a perfect day up the mountain. It was all the little details that made our stay so enjoyable. Hot rice and fresh fruit in the afternoon, a relaxing common area to play cards, read a book or do a puzzle (it took five nights to complete!). We were also fortunate to be dropped off at our next destination making our travels very easy. Would highly recommend for everyone.

Aya Lodge - It felt that nothing was too much trouble.

We had a very enjoyable stay, with our hosts Drew and Lisa being very accommodating and friendly. Breakfast was fantastic with a very tasty spread. Beds are very comfortable. Good dinner recommendations. It felt that nothing was too much trouble. Will hopefully be back.

Madarao Ski Holiday.

A fabulous holiday, Lisa, Drew and the crew looked after us beautifully Great local restaurants and a variety of resorts in the area, with Madarao slopes an easy short stroll along the road. We were a group of “slightly” older women but that never seemed to matter to anyone - despite a big variety of guests from many nations and age groups, everyone got on very well and shared experiences. The lodge has a variety of room choices and we chose to share a bunk room with shared bathroom. It worked very well for us - comfortable beds and good hot water system. Madarao is pretty easy to get to - Shinkansen train direct from Tokyo to Iiyama then a bus (check timetable - it doesn’t meet every train) to Madarao, or taxi if there are a few to share the cost.

Aya Lodge was the perfect place to stay for our family. Drew and Lisa were amazing hosts, helping with everything from ski hire, restaurant reservations and ski passes as well as offering superb hospitality at the lodge. Great location - easy walk to slopes, restaurants, onsen and bus stop. Lovely, clean rooms with a great games room for the kids. Very relaxing stay and would wholly recommend.

Thanks heaps for such a memorable snow trip

Lisa/Drew and the staff were very nice. They always went out of their way to help and guide us to make sure our stay was enjoyable and one to remember. From organising skis to fantastic dinners, nothing was ever too much trouble. The Lodge was very clean and comfortable, and the breakfast was great, and it was only a short distance to the ski slopes which were awesome. The Fireworks on NYE were amazing and just made our stay even more memorable. Thanks heaps for such a memorable snow trip.

Comfortable and inviting accomodation with knowledgeable hosts.

The owner hosts and their calm and friendly staff are a real find in the great village and ski fields of Madarao. Aya Lodge is recommended as a "home away from home" for you, your family and friends. Starting the day with the excellent scrambled egg based breakfasts and having lift vouchers and accurate advice about Madaroa's in and outs plus the surrounding resorts and towns makes for a relaxing and organised holiday destination only a couple of hours from Tokyo. Thanks Lisa and Drew for another memorable ski holiday experience. Peter and Bella xx
